The biggest player in the industry by far is Oslo-listed Pronova, whose product “Omacor” looks to top $500 million (€345.8 million) this year, according to a new IntraFish Industry Report.

Trailing Pronova is Aker BioMarine, which has its foot in every step along the value chain from krill fishing to health products, and is looking to plunge into the rapidly expanding pharmaceuticals market.

The industry is growing primarily on the back of global demand for dietary supplements based on omega-3 fatty acids, found in abundance in fish oil.
