The number of Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) labeled products has more than doubled in the past five years, hitting retail sales of $4.8 billion (€3.7 billion) in 2013-2014, MSC said Wednesday in a new report. This is a jump of 118 percent since 2009.

The MSC said its certification now covers 10.5 percent of the world's wild-caught sustainable seafood, across 322 fisheries. About 70 percent of those -- 224 -- have been certified by the MSC, while another 98 fisheries are currently still being assessed.
