German processor Frosta said rebounding Barents Sea and Baltic Sea stocks, coupled with lower prices, mean cod will feature in more of its whitefish products next year.

Meanwhile, the company will continue to expand its use of pangasius in place of pollock, which will be in tighter supply with lower quotas.

“Cod has already come down in price, and Barents Sea and even the Baltic sea [stocks] improved. Even the fishermen in the Baltic are complaining they’re not going to sell their volumes,” Jurgen Marggraf, vice president operations, told IntraFish.
