Abamectine is an antiparasite plaguicide used in animal production. Both chemicals are not authorized in Germany, and crystal violet is prohibited in Chile.
Germany’s BVL detected chemical residues, some banned in the European market, when it analyzed 42 samples of Chilean salmon, as Chile’s El Diario Financiero reported.
Sources from the German embassy in Chile confirmed receiving the BVL report. Although they acknowledged there are two samples with low levels of these chemicals, they said these products are banned in Germany.
“BVL now has to send this information to the 16 German states and they will determine if action will be taken or not,” the sources said.
