Genomar’s Trapia project started in August using rented facilities and labor inside an established Malaysian plant to fillet its own whole tilapia, and is now processing around five metric tons a day.
The first frozen shipment will leave for North America in a within a few weeks, CEO Morten Hoyum told IntraFish.
“We are processing and starting to export this month to the United States. The first shipment is due in two weeks,” he said.
The plant will gradually increase production to 20 metric tons per day by December, and further expansion is planned for 2010.
