Sales of frozen tilapia started "slow" to kick off 2014, but since mid-January there's been an "escalating" price for the fish as China's rising middle class and countries such as Brazil, call for more fish.
Growing demand and dwindling supply has led to record prices for farmers, which have increased 10.3 percent from $1,855 (€1,361) per metric ton for 3-to-5 ounce fillets in January, to $2,046 (€1,502) per metric ton in April, a veteran buyer told IntraFish.
