Taste of Tokyo, the Danish fresh sushi producer backed by Deutsche See, slid deeper into the red in 2011 in the face of expansion costs and ever-tougher competition.

The company’s annual report shows its 2011 loss widened by 24 percent to DKK 1.38 million (€185,537/$243,610), with Deutsche See since injecting DKK 2.5 million (€336,118/$441,322) into the business.

This was mainly due to costs linked to its expansion in Germany, and to its market development in Denmark, its CEO said.

However, a new strategy to enter the mainstream segment by targeting new sales channels has been yielding double digit growth since last winter, Anders Christensen told IntraFish.
