Under its "Fish is Life" slogan, Aquabon is supplying French supermarkets and restaurants with defrosted bigeye and yellowfin tuna imported superfrozen to minus-60 degrees Celsius from its own plant in Sri Lanka, as well as from Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese and Indonesian fishing vessels.

Although the company can import at minus-60 degrees, the technology in Europe is not yet good enough for the fish to be transported at this temperature.

“We can receive consignments of fish at minus-60 degrees Celsius delivered by sea and we can store stock at this temperature, but we can’t supply this as there aren’t trucks with this refrigeration capacity,” Managing Director Marc Despretz told IntraFish.
