One Lorient-based processor said a container of 18 metric tons of blue ling was sold last week at rock-bottom prices. While the low price of less than €1 ($1.30) per kilo ensured the fish sold, the quality was poor and IntraFish was told some processors returned fish and demanded refunds.

The load of blue ling originated from Iceland via Grimsby, United Kingdom, where it is reported to have been taken out of the tubs it was shipped in, reboxed and trucked to Europe.
