France's Peche Durable eco-label scheme is now accepting fisheries applications after receiving the last of the necessary approvals from regulators.

In December, France’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (FranceAgriMer) issued a decree approving the public nature of the scheme and its role in certifying fisheries in different stages, including production, marketing, processing and distribution.

The eco-label program was created in 2015, written with the collaboration of fishermen, scientists, NGOs, researchers and other industry stakeholders, and this year will see its first certified fisheries, Jérôme Lafon, delegated fishery and aquaculture at FranceAgriMer, told IntraFish.
