Following the international collapse of freshwater eel species, a new US seafood company has secured its own supply of brood stock and is looking for aquaculture partners in the United States.
Ripple Group, with the help of aquaculture veteran and former Regal Springs Trading Company President Mike Picchietti, wants to use African freshwater eels (Anguillamossambica) as a supplement for the shrinking supplies and the multi-billion dollar industry.
Picchietti told IntraFish there’s a strong demand for eels in Europe and Asia due to the dwindling stocks causing international prices to soar.
