Don Binotto, former CEO of Contessa Premium Foods, told IntraFish on Friday the company, once touted as a top-tier brand, was on the verge of a turnaround earlier this year, but a lack of available cash made it impossible to continue and the doors had to be closed.
Following news reported by IntraFish on Thursday that seafood giant Red Chamber was in the process of acquiring Contessa, including the brand, its leased building, facilities, and equipment, Binotto said whoever does buy the company will have "a very successful business model" that was growing.
