Commercial Fishermen of America (CFA), a nonprofit group established in 2006, says it's concerned by the “increasing involvement of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the NMFS process.”

The group delivered a letter containing a comprehensive series of requests to specific congressional representatives and senators in Washington, D.C., during Capitol Hill's "Oceans Week" in June.

The letter focuses on the alleged failure of the NMFS to provide credible, collaboratively researched fisheries science on which to base its policies. NGO reports become NMFS publications, CFA claims, with more than 25 percent of the participants being NMFS employees.
