Calm waters and temperatures in the 70s led to near perfect conditions forthe opening of the Copper River fishery as fishermen brought in thousands morefish than the initial 33,000 estimate, according to Alaska Fish and Game(ADF&G).

"Harvest were well above projection as the ideal weather held out forthe period," ADF&G biologist Jeremy Botz told IntraFish."The morning started out slow but pick up a lot in the afternoon."

Although the total landings haven't been finalized, Botz said it could breakthe height of the initial projection of 40,000 fish.
