Two years ago, Lorient-based NGO Collectif Peche et Developpement took the unusual step of hosting a film festival, Pecheurs du Monde, in collaboration with local government bodies.

With the general public already fed on a diet of documentaries on sharks, turtles and dolphins courtesy of Greenpeace and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the intention was to present an alternative viewpoint, Alain le Sann of P&D told Fishing News International.

Fifteen films were shown from directors worldwide, with more than 1,200 people attending over three days.
