Filipino boxing legend and congressman Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao is looking into dumping of decomposed tuna by alleged commercial fishing boats along the tuna processing area of Sarangani Bay last Monday.
According to MindaNews.com, Pacquiao, who is vice chair of the fisheries committee, said, “This is a serious matter and might eventually affect our fishery resources if it continues unabated."
Pacquiao intends to set some legislative measures to help end the problem and he directed the municipal government to intensify coastal monitoring.
Rolando Tuballes, chief of the Sarangani Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, said their initial investigation showed that the fishes were caught by net fishing, which are mainly used by small commercial fishing boats.
