I thought when the time came to write this editorial I would do so with mixed emotions as the last monthly print version of Fish Farming International (FFI)went to the presses. But not so. With our great editorial team working behind the scenes for several months now to design and set up an all-new digital home for FFI, I write this editorial with a massive sense of excitement.

It’s a cliché, but this truly is a new and exciting start for FFI. As journalists, our focus is always on delivering news, opinion and features in the best format possible for the content. Why write the location of a farm when you can show it on a map? Why list numbers in a table, when you can create a graphic? Because at the end of the day it is not just about the content itself -- which we believe is, and will continue to be, the best out there -- but making it accessible, interesting and digestible for our subscribers.

This is something IntraFish has always strived to deliver to its readership and I hope you've noticed the changes we have made along the way to constantly improve our print offerings. But -- there is no getting away from it -- print is limiting us and restricting our ideas and creativity in giving you the best information experience you could have.

So releasing these frustrations and launching FFI on to a platform that lets us enter a whole new realm of media is a fantastic feeling and can only allow us to give you more, better and faster.

Suddenly our stance becomes: Why JUST describe the farm setting to you, when we can ALSO show you in a video? Why JUST show it on a map, when we can make that map interactive? Why deliver an interview JUST as a written Q&A when we can ALSO give you audio?

Editing a publication that has been delivering groundbreaking aquaculture news and information each and every month since before I was born has been a massive privilege (OK, so maybe I feel a pinch of nostalgia), but as a reflection of the fast rate of change in the industry we write about and work in, it is absolutely right that we move into a better, faster, more dynamic medium.

We will launch FFI digital (www.fishfarminginternational.com) in January so check your inboxes for that link and delve right in -- back copy will be archived, making the site fully searchable (and freeing up some space on your bookshelves) and there will be some great new formats delivering all the features, products, research, comment and news that you are used to from FFI.

You can also follow us and comment on Twitter: @farm_more_fish; Facebook: Fish Farming International; and at our LinkedIn group: The Aquaculture Network.

With that I wish you a great year end and look forward to seeing you for a very exciting 2015!
