The decision to ban the Norwegian whitefish supplier from exporting its products to Russia was taken on April 23, Bjorn Rothe Knudtsen, director of Norway’s food safety authority [Mattilsynet] told IntraFish.
Four other companies -- three salmon suppliers and another whitefish supplier -- have been flagged by the Russian veterinary agency Rosselkhoznadzor as well, Knudtsen said.
This development follows a recent meeting between Norwegian authorities and Rosselkhoznadzor officials in Bergen where the five companies were discussed.
Hope for 'fruitful talks' with Russia
When asked if Russia might impose a blanket ban on all Norwegian fresh fish imports, Knudtsen said he had received "no such official confirmation of import ban."
