In 1981, catches of wild salmon totaled just over 500,000 metric tons, while farmed production was around 130,000 metric tons. Last year, just under 750,000 metric tons of wild salmon were caught, while production of farmed salmon was about 1.5 million metric tons, according to feed manufacturing company BioMar.
Wild salmon fishermen in Alaska, for example, fought hard to retain their market shares by broadcasting their fish amount to the real monarch, and no farmed salmon can measure up to the taste of wild.
