The United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food (FAO), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain and Conxemar will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries at this year's event in Vigo, Spain.
The code of conduct was drafted by 170 nations, negotiated at FAO, and unanimously adopted by member states of the FAO conference held in October 1995.
It has been adapted to be better aligned with the changes to fisheries and aquaculture over the past two decades, with subsequent instruments and guidelines adopted to support it, including a series of international plans of action, instruments for combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU), eco-labeling for certification and guidelines for small-scale fisheries.
