“The economic impact to the region and to the U.S. economy in whole cannot be assessed yet, but it is going to be huge,” the executive, who asked not to be named, told IntraFish. “The economic impact to the domestic shrimp industry will be major but will have a relatively small impact on the global shrimp industry.
“The impact to the shrimp market will be minimal. We will see some panic buying from Gulf processors, who naturally fear the worst. This panic buying will drive the market in general up a bit, but hard to say how much.”
