It was a year marked by historically low prices for major seafood commodities like shrimp and salmon. But price deflation was evident throughout most of the major seafood categories, and this led to lower sales for many companies featured on WorldCatch’s annual ranking of North America’s Top 25 Seafood Suppliers.
Fifty-six percent of the companies listed reported flat or lower sales in 2001, a direct reflection of the tough market conditions that dominated a year marked by the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States and the start of America’s war on terrorism.
