European Commission tightens the noose on IUU fishing

A list naming countries that indulge in illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing will be published in "one or two weeks," a European Union (EU) Commission representative told IntraFish at the Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum in London.

"These countries might face the possibility of being banned from supplying to the EU," Franz Lamplmair, adviser for fisheries policy at the European Commission, told IntraFish.

"The countries will have six months to prove us wrong," Lamplmair said. "They already know who they are, and have started to ask the commission for dialogues."
