The price levels mean Norwegian salmon producers, whose costs for gutted salmon average between NOK 16 and NOK 18 per kilo (€2-€2.25/ $2.41-$2.71), are making more than 100 percent profit on the production cost for the fish.

Salmon suppliers said colder temperatures in Norway slowed growth rates, curbing supply. Per Vider Ottesen of Norwell told IntraFish he anticipated high salmon prices to continue through until August.

Aquaculture Manager Tor Anders Elvegaard of Nordlaks reported prices of NOK 35 per kilo for these sizes, with prices somewhat lower for fish under three and over six kilos.
