Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg arrived at the Aquaculture Europe event in Istanbul with an abundantly clear message: the EU now has plans to start development of a robust European aquaculture industry.

Borg, however, is aware there are still problems to be resolved.

He said he realizes there are challenges in regard to feed and the environment, and he intends to enlist the aid of research scientists in a massive effort to tackle these and other obstacles.

For all who can contribute toward this development, for instance researchers, equipment manufacturers, consultants and established companies that wish to expand both within and outside the EU, a world of opportunity is now opening up for them, he said.

The
