The European Union led Japan and the United States as the largest market for fish and aquaculture products (FAP), totaling 12 million metric tons worth €55 billion ($77.8 billion) in 2007.

The findings were presented in the new European Commission report, "Study on the supply and marketing of fishery and aquaculture products in the European Union."

Aside from hotel, restaurant and catering (HORECA), European consumption represented €47 billion ($66.5 billion), ahead of Japan at €46 billion ($65 billion) and the United States at €10 billion ($14 billion).
