EU: Awesome opponent

The approved minimum import price (MIP) on Norwegian salmon imported into the European Union is now in force, and the majority is glad a long dispute and major unrest in the world’s largest salmon market is over. But this does not mean it was wrong of the Norwegians to challenge the mighty European Commission. The measures imposed against the salmon are still just as unfair.

In the salmon issue during the last year, the EU demonstrated its colossal power as a trade bloc. This power is reflected in quotes from an interview with EU director Fritz-Harald Wenig presented Saturday in the Norwegian financial newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN).

Wenig did not comment on the grounds for the punitive measures; nonetheless the interview is with a person who has won the battle that is talking.

“They (Norwegians) thought the EC was a paper tiger. If you are a mouse and go to bed with an elephant, then you should avoid the mouse tossing and turning too much in the bed.
