Like many EU suppliers, Danish whitefish processor Espersen, the sole supplier to McDonald’s European units, faced a challenging 2013.
CEO Klaus Nielsen, in Seattle, Wash. for meetings with its US pollock suppliers, told IntraFish while last year was a year of change with high cod supplies, questions about the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for Russia’s Sea of Okhotsk pollock fishery and an erratic haddock market, this year his company anticipates a much-needed stability in raw material prices.
“I don’t expect any surprises, unless somebody is sitting on warehouses of inventory we don’t know about,” Nielsen said of his Seattle meetings.
