The US Environmental Protection Agency is seeking a process under the Clean Water Act to identify how to protect the world's largest sockeye salmon fishery in Bristol Bay, Alaska from the proposed Pebble Mine project.

Last month, the EPA issued a report stating the proposed large-scale copper and gold mining project in Bristol Bay, Alaska, will negatively impact the salmon fishery.

EPA issued the following statement today:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is initiating a process under the Clean Water Act to identify appropriate options to protect the world’s largest sockeye salmon fishery in Bristol Bay, Alaska from the potentially destructive impacts of the proposed Pebble Mine.
