When PanFish expanded through the acquisitions of Fjord Seafood and Marine Harvest, a bit of political wrangling became necessary in order to extend the number of licenses one company could own in Norway.

Following the acquisitions, Eide began the process of persuading the Norwegian authorities to allow Marine Harvest to own 25 percent of the total license mass in Norway.

It was an organized and transparent process, which was possible to follow closely right up until Norwegian Fisheries Minister Helga Pedersen assented to the expansion, making Marine Harvest the biggest in the world.
