While people still don’t know exactly where eels come from, they have a good idea where at least the European eel is headed – extinction.

But if eel farmer Richard Fordham at Scandinavian Silver Eel (SSE) and others like him who are aiding the restocking effort; it won’t be without a fight.

According to Sara Jonsson, plant manager at the Kemira chemical plant in Sweden, farming eels started as just a “wild idea” as to what could be done with some of the 22 megawatts of heat it recovers from sulphuric acid production.
