The demand for shrimp has never been higher as disease such as Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) has run rampant through Asian producing countries, giving rise to opportunistic growth in countries such as Ecuador, which has seen its annual growth increase between 10-26 percent for the last half decade.
Last year, the country exported roughly 137,500 metric tons of shrimp, and about 17.5 percent of that -- 24,000 metric tons -- came from Omarsa, which is taking a different approach to growth -- stocking its ponds with less shrimp, but doing so more often.
