Ecuador shrimp industry officials say a new 11.68 percent countervailing duty on sales to the United States will lead to some $60 million (€45 million) in losses.

Industry officials say they might complain to the World Trade Organization about the tariff on shrimp exports to the U.S, Ecuador's largest market.

Ecuador's embassy in the United States, in a statement, said the US countervailing duty finding contains gross mistakes as to interpretation and procedure.

"In addition, in the hypothetical case that this were true, the methodology used to calculate these penalties lacks technical support and adopts information and comparisons that are irrelevant or poorly assimilated to the reality of Ecuador, which resulted in an overestimation of the alleged subsidy received by the shrimp sector," the official statement added.
