The plan was announced Wednesday during the 10th Ecuadorian Aquaculture Congress (AQUAEXPO) in Guayaquil.

The General Merchant Navy Board (DIGMER) says it will carry out a census Oct. 10 through Nov. 9 to build a unique and complete database to facilitate the assignment of fuel to shrimp farming companies, said Commander Rafael Cabello, head of DIGMER’s energy sovereignty plan.

“The measure will be a tool for the decree that aims to regularize a group in the shrimp industry that is currently operating without a permit,” said Manfred Altamirano, the undersecretary of coastal environmental management.
