Flatfish says it expects to continue expanding its business, using the Iceland Responsible Fisheries logo as its sustainability standard. It unveiled a new £2 million (€2.2 million/$3.2 million) extension to its plant, opened Dec. 9 by retailer Waitrose.

With the retailer demanding sustainable standards from its suppliers, Flatfish said the label is its way of proving the credentials of its fish.

“Absolutely it’s a requirement, that’s why Iceland is promoting the logo at the moment,” Peter Stokes, finance director, told IntraFish.

“Everything is about sustainability and environmental fishing methods.
