A marine park and casino in the Dominican Republic is suing the Earth Island Institute and one of its employees, dolphin activist Richard O’Barry, for compensatory damages between $83 million (€61 million) and $4.4 billion (€3.23 billion).

The suit, filed last month in a Florida court by Ocean World S.A., is the ninth filing by the company against Earth Island and O’Barry, the star of the Academy Award winning documentary “The Cove.”

It claims Earth Island, which created the “Dolphin Safe” eco-label in 1990, conspired to prevent the company from transporting 12 dolphins to its park, cause bodily harm to its founder and strong-arms companies into paying for its label.
