While it’s true per capita consumption of seafood dipped in 2009 from 16 pounds per person to 15.8 pounds per person, the actual fact is more seafood was consumed in America last year – 45 million pounds more.
That 45 million pound boost amounts to about a 1 percent increase in consumption, said Gavin Gibbons of the National Fisheries Institute, but the number looks like a decline when adjusted for per capita rates due to the rising population.
What does that mean?
On one hand, it says the people who eat seafood are eating more of it, which is good news for the folks who make their money catching, growing and selling fish and shellfish.
