Eastern -- headquartered in U.S. scallop port New Bedford, MA -- hopes to start operations at the farm in June, said its Executive Vice President, Joe Furtado.
The company will invest around $1 million (€720,000) in the project in the first year, which will cover infrastructure costs and also the seed, Furtado told IntraFish.
“We will be producing a bay scallop, which will reach market size in five months. The initial volumes will be 10 to 12 containers, so around half a million pounds.”
