Dutch retailers may have to change their sourcing policy regarding Alaskan salmon if the fisheries pull out of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a spokesperson of the Dutch retail association (CBL) said.
Dutch retailers will only keep sourcing non-MSC Alaskan salmon if the Alaskan scheme can prove that it’s demonstrably compliant with FAO guidelines for fisheries eco-labels, Janne Mulders, sustainability officer at CBL said.
It is too early to say if CBL considers the Alaskan scheme as a credible alternative to the MSC, Mulders said.
