Dutch retailer Albert Heijn is switching to Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)-certified farmed salmon.
The supermarket chain said it is the first retailer worldwide to offer ASC-certified salmon on this scale, the outcome of its five-year collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Salmon accounts for around 45 percent of all fresh fish sales at Albert Heijn, it said.
To ensure its products are responsibly sourced, the retailer made the decision to use only ASC-certified salmon for both its fresh and its frozen own-brand products.
“The
