Volendam-based Klaas Puul generates 40 percent to 50 percent of its €150 million ($219 million) annual turnover from North Sea shrimp, but is also active in importing warmwater shrimp from Asia and South and Central America.
“We see it [the drop in sales] in our figures,” said Evert Kok, purchasing director with Klaas Puul.
The harvest for farmed shrimp in Asia and the Americas will begin in July, but Kok told IntraFish he is not particularly hopeful this will meet the demand and bring down prices.
