The three largest fish farming companies in northern Norway -- Cermaq, Nordlaks and Nova Sea -- will begin DNA tracing farmed fish.

The first traceable salmon will be transferred to sea in the autumn of 2015. Tracing will identify the origin of the fish so that in the event of an escape, fish can be traced back to the owner.

The tracing method being used will also be available for other farming companies that may wish to participate.  This method was made possible in cooperation with AquaGen and CIGENE at Norwegian University for Life Sciences.
