NRK TV’s consumer inspectors recently showed how fishmeal and oil factories in Peru are polluting the air, sea and sea floor.

They interviewed a pediatrician, a senior regional physician, school teachers, marine biologists, environmentalists, local politicians, trade unions, fishermen and the local population.

We were shown children with chronic fungal blotches on their faces and bodies, with severe asthma and allergies. Photos provided proof of a human-populated environment heavily polluted by emissions of gases, smoke, dust clouds and stench. Neighbors of the factories showed the cameraman house walls, washing hung out to dry and garden plants that were covered in layers of filth and soot.
