It’s one of those mind-boggling "did I hear that right?" moments: a European Commissioner giving the general public a piece of advice that’s directly against the interests of the people one would imagine that commissioner has been appointed to represent and work on behalf of.

The EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs published a blog advising holidaymakers to avoid fish caught in drift nets or bottom trawls, legal, regulated and widespread methods of fishing. It’s hardly surprising that the fishing industry is spitting feathers in its fury at this attack from within.
