That’s good news for those who catch and process Alaskan cod, as the catch quota for 2011 was increased this week by the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council from 168,780 tons to 227,950 tons next year.
“Demand ramped up as sharply in August as I’ve ever seen it in 25 years. I’ve never seen demand ramp up so fast,” Paul Gilliland, CEO of Seattle-based Bering Select Seafoods, told IntraFish.
Demand is up from existing customer and new customers, and potential customers who continue to arrive with inquiries unsolicited, he said.
