Prices for live lobster from the United States have risen sharply in the past few weeks with the molting season in New England delayed two to three weeks following a cold winter in the Northeast.
Vessels fishing in deeper waters started seeing the "shedders" last week, accounting for 20 to 30 percent of some catches near brackish water.
While large volumes aren't expected to be landed until later this month, there's still enough supply available to buyers after Canada's season, which saw improved landings, according to East Coast Seafood President and CEO Michael Tourkistas.
