Will it come to a stalemate between Cermaq's two largest shareholders? The Norwegian government, Cermaq's largest shareholder, rejected Marine Harvest's previous takeover bid, while Lansdowne, the second-largest shareholder in the salmon farming and fish feed giant voted against the company's acquisition of Peruvian fishing group Copeinca.

"It will be a difficult situation for Cermaq to have two shareholders with negative control, who want a different outcome than the management," said Geir Kristiansen, analyst at Sparebank1 Markets to NRK.

Major Cermaq shareholders contacted by NRK, believe the situation will be "value-destroying."
