Darden Concepts Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Darden Restaurants, which owns the Red Lobster and Olive Garden chains, sued New Jersey-based Briad Restaurant Group L.L.C., a franchisee that operates TGI Friday's restaurants in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, alleging the company infringed on its copyrights when it launched a "never ending shrimp" promotion.
Darden, which owns a patent to the phrase "never ending pasta bowl," claims in a federal lawsuit filed in southern California claiming Briad's use of "never ending shrimp" in a promotion violates its federal trademarks.
