Denmark’s pelagic catchers entered the MSC process with no expectations other than to maintain their markets, but during the assessment, attitudes changed, Pelagic PO Chairman Christian Olesen told Fishing News International.
“Our customers said to us explicitly during the process that this is no longer a question of price. Without certification we would not be able to sell our products,” he said. “Since the fisheries became certified, there has been a stream of enquiries about produce from these fisheries.”
