WHITEHILLS skipper Colin Mitchell and the four crewmen from the 20.8m twin-rig trawler Beryl BF 411 were recovered safely from liferafts after the vessel started to take on water quickly north of Shetland last Sunday afternoon (22 May), reports David Linkie.

Beryl was towing in moderate weather some 25 miles NNE of Muckle Flugga when an alarm alerted Skipper Mitchell to an engineroom problem shortly after 14.15hrs. He found the water level in the engineroom to be rising quickly. As a result he contacted Onward BF 440, which was fishing nearly 10 miles away, to inform him of serious flooding and to request a Mayday relay call to Shetland Coastguard.
